Antonio Gutierezz
Antonio Gutierrez creates this curious creepy effect . To do this he places a bowl or glass(es) in front of a particular are of the subjects face e.g eyes. The refraction of the water through the water morphs it resting this bug like affect. In editing he makes these images black and white and adjusts the brightness and/or contrast to once again add to the creepy unreal theme.
my images
intentions
In this shoot I intended on recreating Gutierrez' shoots to create creepy bug like distortions onto my subject. I have found that using black and white filters with high contrasts really helps to emphasise the the difference in size and draws attention to the distortions that the water creates. I had an idea to use coloured ink to add to the distortion of the water however the ink only distracts from the distortion.

MIRROR REFLECTION
Sebastian Magnani
Magnani was born in 1985 in Switzerland, where he trained as a media designer and discovered photography. In 2001 he became a professional photographer. His projects receive a lot of media attention and have been featured in many newspapers and magazines.
Magnani uses circular mirrors that have been positioned to reflect the nature around them. My personal favourites are those that have the mirror places on a surface that is contrasting to the reflected surface, I find these images particularly interesting as the colour contrasts and use of blank space draws the eye to certain points in the image.
INTRODUCE YOUR SHOOT HERE.
intentions
In this shoot I wanted to recreate Magnani's nature shoots captured two contrasting aspects of nature at the same time, in the mirror and in the background around the mirror.
YOU'VE SHOT A WIDE VARIETY OF IMAGES OF DIFFERENT SUBJECTS. NOW, SELECT YOUR BEST 3 IMAGES, ENLARGE THEM, DO ANY EDITING YOU NEED TO AND THEN, ANALYSE THE SHOOT AND ENLARGEMENTS.

self analysis
I quite like my final images however I would have liked to develop these more outside of school where I could experiment more with the different angles and reflections that have strong contrasts to the background. A developed shoot would also help me to iron out anyone focused or one/under exposed photos.
REFLECTION OF COLOUR
Tamara Lorenz
Tamara Lorenz is a German photographer who uses coloured paper and editing to create images that mimic reflection in a more abstract form. She frequently uses dull background to create stark contrast between the coloured shapes and the background, in addition to the contrast of lines, shape, tone and texture. This helps to create an almost 3d, more realistic echo of reflection from a mirror. She cuts out the shape son closed paper an the sticks them in the way that mimics reflection, any additional straightening out or adding shadows to photos can be done with editing.
image analysis1.I quite like this image as the contrast between the dull background and the vivid yellows and pinks creates a contrast and adds a 3d affect. Lorenz also layers he coloured paper, as you can see with the yellow, this adds to the shadows and realistic mimicking of a 3d image. Her use of a darker grey paper on top of the background grey helps to add shadows and distinction that editing may be unable to do successfully.
2. this image has a particularly unusual contrast as it uses different shades of red instead of different colours. The use of white in shadows helps to carry the eye along the sharp lines of the image. I particularly like the square in the middle as it is slightly off centre completely destroying the concept of straight lines and the organisation that most of her other images follow. |

- Stretch - For additional points, annotate two of her images by describing them in detail, including what the subject of the images are (what the photos look like), what effects she creates, and how the photos have be??

DESCRIBE WHAT YOU TRIED TO ACHIEVE HERE.
In these shoots I tried to recreate Tamara Lorenz' shoots. However as we were using paper and scissors and have limited photoshop skills, my lines weren't as straight as I would have liked.
final images
RIGHT NOW, THESE IMAGES ARE QUITE WEAK AND NEED TO BE EDITED IN PHOTOSHOP - THEY WILL THEN LOOK GORGEOUS. CROP THEM AND BUMP UP THE COLOUR SATURATION AND THEN ANALYSE THEM. DID YOU ACHIEVE THE AIM OF THIS PROJECT? INCLUDE WWW AND EBI.
self analysis
I like my first edited images, as I think I changed the colour balance enough to help create the shadows and contrast to draw the eye. however as I went to edit my zoomed in images (the last three) I found that I had not saved the original images so I had to download them from my weekly page. this meant that once I had cropped the images to have more enlarged photos, they were extremely pixelated and so ruined the effect of sharp straight lines.
TIM WALKER-wonderful things
at the v&a
celebrity
The first room helps to give viewers a general idea about Walkers work and allows viewers to understand more about him, his past and whats inspires his work. This first room includes imaginative portraits and shoots of many well known celebrities varying from models like Kate Moss to environmentalists like David Attenborough. This sense of familiarity may help viewers to read to and may even draw more interest to his images.
the rooms
As you go through the exhibition you begin to notice a distinct theme that each room follows, these vary dramatically from room to room. For example: 'Pen &Ink' which featured green velvet walls with images with strong contrasts of black and white and very thin lines in a way replication 'ink'. Another room , my favourite, was titled 'Box of Delights' which consisted of a very dollhouse-like time. Featuring pink floral wall paper and very flowery, fantastical and camp themes. This room also included a short film ,showing the shooting of the images, shown on a old tv (matching the room with floral textured paper).
behind the scenes
Some of the themed rooms include a short film showing the behind the scenes of the shoots behind the images on display. This helps the viewer to have a better idea of how the photos were done and how Walker approached his ideas. I notices that Walker approaches his shoots fairly systematically however they are not stiff or robotic, they flow well which results in relaxed yet well placed subjects.
We also got the opportunity, as part of the exhibition, to see some of Walkers note/sketchbooks. This allowed us to see deeper into his thought processes behind some of the images. I really liked this touch in the exhibition as it helped me to have more ideas for my own shoots and how to plan them.

THREE STRANDS
ENSURE YOU SELECT 3 PHOTOGRAPHERS PER STRAND, IN ORDER TO GIVE CONTEXT TO YOUR WORK. THEY CAN BE ONE OF THE PHOTOGRAPHERS FROM THESE MINI MOODBOARDS YOU'VE CREATED.-
Slava Semenyuta
light reflection
Slava Semenyuta is a Russian self-taught photographer. He likes these light reflections as they seem cosmic and he finds that the colours seem magical and mysterious. I like the way the light reflection in the shallows puddles draws attention to the textures of not only the puddles but the rough concrete around them.

For this shoot I tried to capture light reflection in the shop fronts and around the city, I liked some of my photos but as I was on busy streets I could not stop to set up my framing and settings and so most of my images were off and so required more editing.
HALLOWEEN SHOOT
Tom Hussey
mirror reflection
Tom Hussey is an American photographer that uses reflections to show peoples youth. this creates a sense of almost a time jump showing the viewer the persons life and in a sense personality. Hussey uses editing to make the reflections look like old photographs but edits them well enough to simply pass as reflections in the mirror.

I really liked the outcome of this shoot as the image edited very cleanly. However I would have liked to take more photos so I could make more than one final image. I tried to darken the mirror part of the image in order to accurately capture the creepy effect I wanted.

Chris Carr
water reflection
Chris Carr is an American photographer who takes surreal photos usually of puddle reflections. He wants the viewers to experience "the artworks as a new genre of photography that challenges their perception and minds." This is a good guide for the kind of water reflection I would like to try. He does not digitally edit any of his images and "Each image strives inits own way to evoke an idea of two worlds colliding in one small, fleeting view."

self-analysis
I had an intention when I went out to shoot however my camera settings weren't correct and so some o the images turned out blurred or over/under exposed, next time I will check and adjust my settings before and during every shoot. I also feel as though I would have gone out on more shoots if I had the time, so that I could really perfect my shoots and end up with the final images that I wanted. Like my idea of the contrasted reflections however I could quite perfect the execution and so they turned out a bit grainy and choppy. In addition to this, I would've liked to have the time/opportunity to develop all of my shoots fully before starting work on the final response shoots as I feel my shoots were rushed.
MOCK DEVELOPMENT 1
As I did not get a great grade on my mock work and personally I did not like the result of my shoot, I decided to do a development to explore more into what I actually wanted to do for my mock.
my images
editing process
self analysis
I really liked this development as it was a more accurate representation of what I wanted to do for my mock work. I really like the subtlety of the reflection and the actual subject as if you don't focus on it it isn't inherently obvious that there is a difference. I felt that the eery affect that I wanted would be best achieved using a black and white filter however when I tried to increase the contrast it made the image go grainy, so to avoid this I had to increase the brightness which resulted in the image being quite pale but I still think I managed to achieve the creepy affect I originally wanted.
Alban Grosdidier
Grosdidier's water pieces are names 'Drowning', he wanted people to think about feeling drowned in their own city as he presented his pieces printed and placed around his city. the ripples and splashes of the water against the subjects helps to add to the depth of the images. I like the black and white contrasts as it adds focus and detail the the subjects faces and features.
Millet's Ophelia
Ophelia is a painting sone based on/part of Shakespeare's novel 'Hamlet'. Ophelia is hamlet's lover who falls into a stream and drowns after finding out that her lover murdered her father. The painting accurately reflects ophelia grief while creating an essentially beautiful painting. The bright colours of the flowers highlighting her face and the way her skirt merges with the water is quite graceful and peaceful considering the context.
Ella, for each artist you research, select 1-2 images to go into further detail with your analysis - describing the images and giving your opinion , in addition to what you've already written.
When it comes to www and ebi, also go into further detail. What you have right now is fine but I think you have the ability to stretch yourself by further analysing your shoots and selecting your best images to annotate/analyse.
You've been doing a great job at improving this project - continue to respond to all red feedback.
Describe your intentions for the Halloween shoot and do a section on Tom Hussey.
I really like your new developments of your friend reflecting in the bathtub. I want you to keep shooting these, because you might get something really great which you can work into a final piece. Try using different lighting, putting different objects in the bath, have your friend in the bath and the idea of part submerged/surface reflections. Do a research section on Alban Grosdidier and Millet's Ophelia for references.

I quite liked this Grosdidier inspired shoot. I wanted to replicate the black and white that he used however in some of the photos there were colours that I felt were brought out nicely in the water. I really liked the contrasts of the light and the shadows in the ripples of the water and I was quite happy with how crisp this was represented in my photos. Unfortunately I had some trouble exporting and so some of the images were out of focus on my weekly, when the original image was not.
